Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a procedure that uses a laser to damage hair follicles and reduce hair growth. It can be used for aesthetic or medical purposes.
How it works:
The laser's light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, which converts the light energy into heat. This heat damages the hair follicles, which stops or delays hair growth.
What to expect:
Before the procedure, the area is cleaned and a topical anesthetic may be applied. During the procedure, the patient wears protective eye goggles while the laser operator holds the skin taut. The patient may feel a stinging sensation or warm pinpricks.
Results:
Most patients need three to eight sessions to achieve permanent hair loss. The degree of hair reduction depends on the number of treatments.
The most common treatment areas include the chest, back, legs, armpits, upper lip, chin, and bikini line.
